History 

The Air Training Corps (ATC) was formed on the 5th February 1941 by Air Commodore Sir John Chamier, who is respectfully known as the ‘Father of the ATC’. Over the last 40 years the organisation has gone from strength to strength, Girls have been able to join since 1980 which helped bring more like minded young people together to enjoy the Air Cadet life.

The Commandant of the Air Cadets is Air Commodore Tony Keeling, who assumed post in September 2020, taking over from Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty CBE.

Our Honorary Air Commandant the Duchess of Cambridge who took over from the Duke of Edinburgh in December 2015.

In April 2013 Sir Chris Hoy became the first ambassador of the Air Cadets and in November 2014 Hon Group Captain Carol Vorderman came onboard to support cadets nationally.

From October 2017 the Air Cadet Organisation (ACO) became known as the Royal Air Force Air Cadets (RAFAC).
